  • Nearly two-thirds (64%) of firms conduct exit interviews when a member of staff leaves, according to a survey by specialist engineering and technical recruiter CBSbutler.

    The poll also shows that 36% of respondents indicated that they sometimes undertake exit interviews.

    David Leyshon, managing director of CBSbutler, says: With retention very much at the top of the HR agenda, it is good to see companies trying to ascertain why people leave. 
     
    “As the recession recedes, more people will again leaving jobs of their own accord and these are for a complex mix of reasons.  Pull factors can include a better offer elsewhere while push factors can include inadequate training and development, insufficient or a poor culture fit. 

    “If companies can ascertain the real reasons for leaving that they are in a much better position to prevent others from leaving for similar reasons.”
